Landrys - Round 23

Ben was so glad to be back home. At the ocean.

It was the perfect place to mend his broken heart.  All through college, he'd always assumed  that he and Kate would wind up together.  They'd been in love all throughout highschool.  They'd studied together.  And talked about their hopes & dreams.

And then she'd met Travis Kincaid and been swept off her feet.

And he was left with nothing.

"Hey girl, yeah, sure, my folks aren't home yet, come on over!" Brooks said loudly, distracting Ben from his sulking.

"Brooks, you know you're not supposed to have girls over without permission," Ben cautioned.

Brooks flipped his brother off as he turned his back.  "Change of plans, I'll meet you by the bleachers."

Ben rolled his eyes as Brooks headed into the bathroom to begin his pre-date ritual. Kids! Ben thought grumpily as he turned back to the classifieds section.

Brooks flicked some gel through his hair and mussed it into place.  It took work to have his hair look this rumpled & sexy.  It's not like you could just roll out of bed and have your hair looking this good!  And the girls seemed to dig it!

He wasn't looking for a serious relationship, but then again... neither were any of the girls he dated.

First there had been one of the Russell twins.  He wasn't exactly sure which one she was... hey! They were twins! That was confusing!

Then there was that townie chick... he couldn't quite remember her name either, but that was because she didn't go to school with them! He'd met her at a football game and hit it off.

Things had gotten a little hot and heavy with Annaleigh Carter, but midway through their make-out session, she'd confessed that she had a thing for Kennedy Hart.  What a buzz kill!

His bad luck continued when he made a play for Chantel McMillan and she'd shook her head and told him that she was head over heels for Dierk.

But man, oh man, did he hit it off with Gayle Hart.  She was hot!

Brooks set the blender on the bar & whipped up a drink.  Mom & Dad would kill him if they caught him, but what they didn't know wouldn't hurt them!

He just had to make sure that Ben didn't find out.  Glancing over his shoulder, he looked around for his older stick-in-the-mud brother.  Ah! He was totally into that blonde chick.  That should totally keep him distracted!

He'd had to plead with his brother to let him throw a party.  He'd convinced Ben that it was his "going away" party before heading off to college and a mixed group of people had shown up - college kids, seniors & even a few adults.  Brooks had figured having a few older people would keep Ben off his back!

Ben glanced across the room at the beautiful blonde and tried to work up the nerve to approach her.  His confidence had recently taken a beating, so it was sort of hard to even introduce himself.  Shaking his head, he walked away and decided that he wasn't ready to be in a relationship anyway.

"Hi, um, do you know where the rest room is?" the vision tapped him on the shoulder and asked.

Ben turned around, startled, "Oh yeah, it's just right around the corner."

The Vision smiled and stuck out her hand.  "Amanda."

Ben blinked and looked down at her hand.  "What?"

"My name. It's Amanda," she said slowly, as if talking to a child.  After a long pause, she continued, "And your name is?"

Oh God, Ben thought frantically.  She's talking to me.  Pull it together Ben!  "Ben. I'm sorry. I'm Ben!" he said in a single breath, then reached out to shake her hand.  "Nice to meet you."

Awkwardly they stood next to each other.  "So, yeah, just right around the corner," Ben said stupidly.

"What?" Amanda asked.

"The bathroom."

"Oh. Right." Amanda said with a firm nod. "The bathroom. Because that's what I asked you."  Her face flushed to a bright red and she hurried around the corner.

Feeling ridiculous, Ben headed out to the balcony.  Killing time, he gazed through the telescope.

"Nice night," Amanda said softly behind him.

Ben jumped in surprise and turned around.  "What?" he asked.

Amanda cleared her throat.  "It's a nice night. For looking at the stars."

Ben scrambled for a response.

Amanda took a deep breath and continued on.  "I have a confession," she said.

"Oh? What's that?"

"I didn't actually need to know where the restroom was.  I just saw you checking me out from across the room.  I'd been hoping you would talk to me... so I thought of the first thing I could think of to ask you.  Unfortunately, it turned out to be the bathroom," she said, chagrined.

Ben laughed. "Well, I'm glad you had more guts than I did! Otherwise, we never would've even gotten to our names!"

Ben and Amanda were pretty inseparable after that night. She often came over after work each afternoon and spent her evenings with them.  They talked about all sorts of things.

And he loved how active she was.

It was definitely no hardship to watch her jumping around in her bathing suit!

It was only a matter of time before they took it to the next level...
