Carters (8) - Round 20

Emily was so enthralled with Archie! Underneath his stuff shirt, there was a wild man waiting to get out!
When he'd asked her to move in with him after college, she'd accepted whole-heartedly.  This was going to be so much fun!

"What a nice night," Archie said.  "You're right. This was a lot of fun."

Emily waggled her eyebrows.  "I know just the thing to top it off!"

Archie settled into their routine quite nicely.  They both got jobs and spent time studying every night.  Things were going great, he thought.

Only...

"God! This monotony is killing me!" Emily cried as she threw her book down.  Jumping up on the couch, she bounced around.  "Come on, let's do something fun!"

Archie stared in surprise.  "Emily! Your heels are going to wreck the leather!"

"Who CARES? Let's do something wild!"

"Like what?" Archie asked.

"Let's get married!" Emily announced.

"What?!"

"You love me, right?" Emily asked, point blank.

Archie stammered.  "Of course I do. I love you!"

"Well, I love you, too. So? What are we waiting for? Let's get married!"

"I now pronounce you man & wife," the pastor statue announced.

Emily grinned, "This ROCKS!" she exlaimed as she leaned forward to kiss him.

Archie cleared his throat.  "I'm here to rent a room," he announced.

The bored clerk looked like he wasn't a day over 17.  "Sure," he shrugged, "Room 3."

"Umm.. we just got married!"

The clerk rolled his eyes.  "Sure you did. Okay, Room 8 at the end of the hall. It'll be an extra $50."

Archie pulled the bills out of his wallet, embarrassed beyond belief.

Walking outside, he saw Emily and asked, "Are you sure we should be here?"

Emily kissed him and pulled the key from his hand.  "Of course! Where's your sense of adventure?! I've always wanted to come to a place like this!" she said excitedly.

Archie had to admit, the vibrating bed was certainly... interesting...

But, he couldn't help but be very... very... VERY glad when they went home.

"Everyone, we have an announcement to make," Archie cleared his throat.  They'd gathered their family's together in the livingroom to let everyone know at one time.  He'd practiced a speech which he hoped would smooth everything over.

"We got married! Ta da!" Emily interrupted.

Archie glanced at her and whispered, "Honey, we agreed that we would follow the speech."

Emily scoffed and whispered back, "They don't want to listen to a speech! They just wanted to know what they were doing sitting in the livingroom.  No we can celebrate!"

Tyler came forward and hugged his son.  "I'm so happy for you!"

"Thanks, Dad," Archie said.

Tyler made a face, "Not a lot of notice, though!"

Archie sighed. "Yeah, Emily is a force to be reckoned with.  She says jump and all my thoughts fly out the window!"

"Well, practice keeping some sane thoughts in your head. You might need them one day," Tyler advised.

Emily gushed, "It just happened so fast! We fell so in love!"

"That's nice," Veronica nodded politely, glancing around the room for her son.  "I'm very happy for you both," she lied.  "I see Tyler now, I need to go speak with him."

Archie looked around the room and noticed his parents were missing.  About an hour earlier, Emily had run over to him and told him that his Mom hated her.  Wondering what was said, he went to find his Mom.

He found her outside with Dad slow dancing.

Stopping quickly, he watched them dance and saw how in love they were.  He hoped that when Emily & he were old and gray they could still be that much in love.

"Mom?" he asked quietly, "Aren't you going to congratulate me?"

Veronia and Tyler stopped dancing and turned to face Archie.

Glancing at Tyler, Veronica asked to go home.

"Dad?" Archie asked. "What's wrong?"

Tyler gave Archie another hug as Veronica walked to the car.  "Don't worry. She's just had a bit of a shock.  Give her some time to come to grips with the fact that her baby got married without telling her.  We'll see you soon!" Tyler promised as he walked away.

Mom still hadn't called & Archie was getting worried.  Maybe this whole marriage was a mistake.  He loved Emily, but she could be impulsive.  And she made him impulsive, which was even worse.  He knew what sort of trouble she could talk him into!

"Archie?" Emily asked as she came up behind him.

Archie guiltily startled.  What was he thinking? This was his wife!  "What's up, honey?"

Silence.

Archie turned around to ask her again what was wrong when he noticed the pregnancy test in her hand.

"You're pregnant?!" he asked in surprise.

"Surprise!" she said quietly, chewing on her bottom lip.

"Come here," Archie said patting the seat next to him.

"We're going to have a baby," he said, smiling as he hugged her close.
