Tans - Round 17

Jenny was so excited that Quinn had moved in to work on their music.  They tooled around and tried to finish off their songs in the garage.

"Okay, let's finish this set," Quinn said, "Then have a quick make-out break!"

Jenny rolled her eyes. "That line is not going to work Quinn.  Just friends. Remember?"

Quinn grimaced. "Aw, come on Jen! You're killing me!"

Jenny poked his shoulder playfully, "Well your haircut is killing me!"

Quinn shrugged and went to the bathroom to look in the mirror.  "Was it really that bad?" he thought.

Digging around the drawers he found some gel and a shaver.  She wanted bad boy... she was going to get bad boy!

Jenny felt bad about teasing Quinn about his haircut. It wasn't that bad. It'd just been the same one he'd had forever!

She was practicing her vocals when she saw him walk back in the room..

..And wow... Jenny's knees felt weak.  Amazing what a haircut could do!  She stood motionlessly as Quinn sauntered through the garage...

Jenny felt flustered as Quinn quickly approached.  She could tell from the look in his eye that he was going to kiss her.  She hoped he hurried up!

Consumed with passion, they barely made it to the car...

Jenny kissed Quinn goodnight. "Sorry about the couch.  But, it's not right to sleep in the same room with my parents here.  They're old-fashioned."

Quinn shrugged. "No problem, baby. It looks comfortable enough.  Maybe I can slip in later in the night."

Jenny pushed Quinn away. "No! You can't. My parents are right in the other room," she whispered harshly.

Quinn stroked her hair.  "Suit yourself. See you in the morning."

Quinn laid down and tried to get comfortable.  Sighing, he looked up at the ceiling.  It was going to be a long night.

Quinn blinked his eyes and sat up slowly, feeling groggy from lack of sleep. "Wha?" he asked.

Natalie glanced over at the young man on the couch.  "I hope I didn't wake you. I was just making up a batch of pancakes.  Come over and eat if you're ready."

Quinn stretched.  "Thanks. Sounds good."
Natalie certainly hoped that Jenny's new boyfriend didn't last long.  She could tell he was going to be no good.  Hoping to network and find out if there were any other eligible bachelors in town, Natalie called up a few old friends.

"Look, dear, come meet Mr. Parker. He lives down the street. He's very nice."

Jenny was appalled. "Mom! He's like 40! He's an old man!"

Natalie inwardly grimaced. This wasn't going to be easy...

Jenny thought her Mom's attempts at match-making were way obvious.  She didn't need a husband! She was fine just having a good time.

A really good time!

"That was fun, babe," Quinn said after they clambered out of the car.  "Well, better to get to bed so your folks don't know we're fooling around."  Reaching down, he smacked her on the butt and walked away.

It shouldn't have made Jenny feel loved, but strangely... it did...

"Breakfast!" Natalie called cheerfully at 6 a.m.  "Oh, I hope I didn't wake you!" she said as she slammed plates down on the table loudly.  "I'm such an early riser!"

Quinn rubbed at his eyes and blinked a few times to bring the room into focus.  Leaning back, he grunted in acknowledgement.  He was not a morning person.

Good thing the pancakes were good, he thought sourly.

Over breakfast, Natalie asked the two what their plans were.  "I was hoping we wouldn't have to have this talk.  But, what are your plans?  Neither one of you have jobs after coming home from college."

"Mom!" Jenny gasped.  She was so embarrassed!  She couldn't believe her Mom was chiding her like a little child in front of Quinn. "I've been looking!"

"Not just you.  Young man, if you're going to sleep on our couch, you'll need a job, as well."

"MOM!" Jenny was infuriated. "What does it matter if he has a job or not? You're not his Mom!"

Natalie sighed.  "I know that, dear. But, we have rules here. Having a job is one of the requirements for staying here."

Natalie pushed the plate away from her and stood up abruptly. "Well I hate it here and maybe I won't stay!"  She ran to her room.

Quinn cleared his throat.  "I actually just got a job at the local music store."

Natalie just nodded as she took her plate to the sink, worried she would start to cry.  It seemed like she was just pushing her daughter closer to that ruffian!

Later that afternoon, Jenny came out and scarfed down 3 sandwiches.  She didn't know why she was so ravenous all the time!

"Here, let me help with those dishes." Quinn said.  "You go sit down and rest.  You look so tired."

Jenny felt tears well in her eyes. She didn't know how to tell Quinn that he was going to be a father.  Turning away, she hurried into the room and shut the door.

Quinn followed her into the room. "Come on Jenny, you have to be honest with me. What's going on? Why are you crying all the time?"

Jenny cried harder into her hands. "I'm pregnant!" she snapped. "Are you happy now?"

Quinn was stunned.  Dang.  Now what?

Awkwardly he dropped to his knee. "Umm... then maybe we should get married..."  He pulled his thumb ring off and slipped it on her finger.

"Really Quinn?!" she cried. "You mean it?! I didn't think I wanted to get married until I found out.  A baby just changes everything!"  Sobbing even harder, she launched herself into his arms and hugged his tightly.

"So.. um... how far along are you?"

Natalie was so disappointed with the way everything had turned out.  It was a beautiful wedding, of course.  But, there was her little girl up at the alter, 9 months pregnant and not wearing white.  It just wasn't right!  Waylan said that she shouldn't be so critical.  It was a different world out there these days.  What did he know anyways! Since he retired he'd starting more time collecting bugs and watching birds!

They had just finished saying I do when Jenny felt a strong contraction.  Looking at Quinn fearfully, she whispered, "I think it's happening!"

Quinn looked at her, confused.  Suddenly the light dimmed and he threw his hands in the air.  "We need a doctor! Quick!"

Jenny snuggled their little girl Krista in her arms.  What a beautiful little girl she thought happily.  Ew. But she smelled!  "Umm... Mom.... will you show me how to change a diaper?"

***

Quinn invited Camilla over for a little old-time hanky-panky.  Between the baby and work, Jenny didn't have time for him anymore.  The folks were away on a camping trip and Jenny was fast asleep.  It was like he had the house to himself.

He heard the door slam and quickly pulled the covers up.  "Jenny!" he said dumbly.

"Get out!" she screamed.  Quinn wasn't sure if she was talking to him or Camilla.

He leaped out of bed as Camilla dressed and angrily stomped out the door.  The glare she shot him promised retribution.  So he'd told her he was single... it wasn't that big of a deal!

"Look Jen, I can explain, baby."

"I don't want to hear it!" she cried as she slapped his hands away.

Quinn curled up on the couch with the pillow Jenny had thrown at his head.  It had hurt too!

Jenny felt woozy as she prepared to lay down. She hadn't been feeling well.  She was up all the time with the baby, feeding and changing diapers... and she hated changing diapers!  Sobbing, she laid down in bed.  And then that's what Quinn was doing when her back was turned?!  Mom had been right about him, she thought bitterly.

  2. Quinn seems like the type that will try to do right to save face in front of others, but in the back of his mind he harbors doing what he really wants. I understand Jenny's feelings. Natalie...?
